press release

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates reiterates once again the State of Palestine’s adamant condemnation of the abominable Israeli practice of administrative detention that the occupying power uses as a tool of repression against Palestinians. Over the past half century, Israel has unlawfully and punitively imprisoned nearly sixty thousand Palestinian men and women under so-called administrative detention, condemning them to jail without charge or trial for varying periods of time.

The case of Anhar Al-Deek, who has been illegally imprisoned for five months, is a stark reminder of the brutality and inhumanity of this illegal practice. Having entered her final month of pregnancy inside an Israeli jail, Anhar could be forced to deliver her child in shackles and without adequate healthcare. This is cruel and unacceptable.
The occupying power persists in its pervasive violations of international law and the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, including their right to freedom, justice, and self-determination because of the utter failure of the international community to hold Israel accountable for its egregious violations. This collective international failure has allowed Israel to, among other crimes, shatter the lives and rights of tens of thousands of Palestinians victimized and persecuted through administrative detention.

The State of Palestine renews its call on all international actors, including the International Committee of the Red Cross, to push for her immediate release and work to end this monstrous practice once and for all.
